Houston News : Woman rides on hood of car to save $10K dog, police say

Give this woman a raise.

Alize James works at Bullykamp, a specialty pet shop in north Houston. She was helping customers one day in November when a man and woman came in looking for a dog.

Not just any dog – an exotic Bully valued at $10,000, according to court records.

The couple held the dog as James went in the back for some paperwork. When she returned, they were gone. James darted after the couple as they got into their car outside. One of them hit James with the door as they made their escape.

James, however, was unfazed, court records indicate.

She jumped on the hood of the car as the driver sped toward her. She held on for nearly a mile as they drove along Interstate 45, police said.

“My mind is focused on (the dog’s) health,” James told KPRC Channel 2’s Vincent Crivelli. “I obviously didn’t care about my wellbeing.”

They pulled into a parking lot, where the driver got out and started beating James to get off the hood, police said. The woman then ripped James’ necklace off her neck, and the pair sped away.

The couple got away with the dog, police said.

Investigators used information that the woman gave James in the store to track her down. She was later identified as 21-year-old Royshana King and charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon.

It’s unclear who now has the dog.
