Who is BTS? A guide to up-and-coming international boy and girl bands

If you’re anything like this reporter, you were probably scratching your head as you watched the winners of American Music Awards glide across the stage to receive their awards for “best new artist” or “best tour group” wondering, “You’re called what?”

It’s one thing when the names of the musicians being called are full names, a la Ariana Grande or even Billie Eilish, but it’s entirely different altogether when a group you’ve never heard of is just an acronym such as the internationally renowned K-pop group BTS of Seoul, South Korea.

The group took three AMAs over the weekend and has even been compared to The Beatles (seriously), who made screaming fans insane during “Beatlemania” in the early ’60s.

So forget about the Backstreet Boys, NSYNC and New Kids on the Block or the Spice Girls, today’s boy and girl bands are larger than life, hotter, louder, more diverse and hella lot more entertaining.
