Twitter erupts after RodeoHouston cancelled amid coronavirus concerns

Speculation over whether or not Houston should cancel one of the city’s biggest events, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, has finally ended. The city announced Wednesday afternoon RodeoHouston will cease operations for the remainder of the season due to a sudden outbreak of the novel coronavirus in the area.

As of Wednesday morning, the number of Houston-area COVID-19 cases has risen to 14. The World Health Organization on Wednesday confirmed the virus is now a pandemic. 

The announcement of the cancellation shocked Houstonians, leading to a barrage of responses on social media. Online reactions were a mix of shows of approval, upset fans that argued the cancellation was premature and concerned residents that had already attended the event since it began more than a week ago.
