READ IT TO BELIEVE IT: Houston should rightfully be called the weirdest big city in Texas

According to Courtney Fischer and T.J. Parker for KTRK-13, MFAH said a man and woman entered the museum through a grate in a basement window. Their illegal entry sounded the alarm and alerted a security guard, who chased the suspects out the front door and through the woods.

Police said the pair escaped on a nearby motor boat they positioned as a getaway vehicle in the Buffalo Bend Bayou.

Houston police sent out a tweet about the crime at 9:27 p.m. Tuesday, saying, “Central officers K9 and FOX are searching for burglary suspects near Memorial Park. Suspects broke into a museum and then fled on a boat in Buffalo Bayou.”

Officers were able to locate the suspects hiding in a drainage culvert, as reported by the Houston Chronicle, but the pair were able to escape through a storm drainage tunnel beneath River Oaks.

The Houston Chronicle reported there are more than 2,500 objects displayed in the museum throughout the 28 rooms and galleries, none of which were damaged or stolen Tuesday night.
