Pickup driver attempting to pass car kills bicyclist in north Harris County, police say

Police are searching for the driver of a pickup truck who allegedly hit and killed a bicyclist before fleeing the crash late Sunday night in north Harris County.

The bicyclist was southbound on Seven Mile Lane near William Tell Street when the car behind him tried making a right turn around 9 p.m., according to Harris County sheriff’s Sgt. Dashana Cheek-McNeal. The pickup driver, who was behind the turning car, drove onto the wrong side of the roadway and pulled back into the southbound lane, striking the bicyclist.

He then kept driving south on Seven Mile Lane before turning west on Little York Road, Cheek-McNeal said.

Deputies and paramedics started CPR on the injured bicyclist, who was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. His identity was not immediately released.

Cheek-McNeal described the driver as a Hispanic male, about 40 to 50 years old with a light complexion and brown hair. He was driving a 2005 to 2010 dark-colored Dodge Ram, she said.

The truck should have heavy front-end damage.

Anyone with information is urged to call HCSO at 713-221-6000 or Houston Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
