Person found dead in north Houston apartment fire

One person was found dead Wednesday afternoon after a fire at a north Houston apartment building.

Firefighters were called to the fire in the 9600 block of West Montgomery Road around 1:45 p.m. At least one person was found dead at the complex,  Houston Fire Department spokesperson Sheldra Brigham said.

A white sheet blanketed a body outside the building as firefighters waited for arson investigators.

There appeared to be little visible fire damage to the exterior of the building. A rear window to the apartment appeared to be blown out, with broken glass and a set of blinds strewn on the grass.

It is unclear if the fire contributed to the person’s death or if foul play is suspected.
