Man killed while walking on U.S. 59 near Upper Kirby area

A man walking on the U.S. 59 main lanes was struck and killed early Tuesday morning  near the Upper Kirby area.

The 27-year-old man was in the southbound lanes near Newcastle Drive around 3:20 a.m. when a driver of a Cadillac car swerved to avoid him, according to Houston police. The driver of a southbound pickup then swerved to avoid the Cadillac and struck the man.

Paramedics pronounced the man dead in the roadway. The two other drivers were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police had the freeway closed for some time, but it has since reopened. The man’s identity was not immediately released.
