Man killed during Thanksgiving party in Cloverleaf, shooter charged in his death

A 37-year-old man was shot to death at a Thanksgiving family gathering in Cloverleaf, officials said.

Juan Cervantes, 46, is said to have shot and killed Daniel Gonzalez when Gonzalez tried to intervene in an altercation between Cervantes and the homeowner, said Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez Friday.

Cervantes has been charged with murder, according to Harris County officials. He has been booked into the Harris County Jail.

Harris County sheriff’s deputies were called to a home in the 14500 block of Hershe Street near Manor Street in the early morning hours after someone pulled a gun and shot a man outside a home, according to Sheriff’s Capt. J. Shannon. Paramedics rushed the victim to Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Gonzalez said.

Photos of the crime scene tweeted by Shannon show several shell casings in the middle of the street. Shannon said the suspected shooter is in custody, and deputies found a weapon at the scene.

Shannon said there were several people, including young children, at the home for the Thanksgiving gathering.
