Man killed crossing FM 529 in NW Harris County

A man was killed as he tried crossing a busy roadway Tuesday morning in northwest Harris County.

The driver of a gray Toyota Tundra was westbound on FM 529 near Jackrabbit Road when the man attempted to cross the street from the north, according to Sgt. Dashana Cheek-McNeal with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. He was not in a crosswalk, Cheek-McNeal said.

The driver struck the man, who was pronounced dead in the roadway. She remained on scene and cooperated with investigators, Cheek-McNeal said.

The man, believed to be between 25 and 35 years old, had just left a nearby convenience store when he was struck.

Cheek-McNeal said he was wearing dark clothing and was difficult to spot in the roadway.
