Man drowns trying to save pet in Friendswood lake

A man drowned Thursday afternoon after jumping into a small lake trying to save a pet, according to the city of Friendswood.

The 25-year-old man was at Lake Friendswood Park in the 2500 block of Davis Prairie Lane when he went into the water to retrieve a pet, according to a Facebook post by the city. A witness who talked with police said the man began struggling in the water before going under.

Rescuers rushed to the lake to try and save the man, but recovery crews pulled his body some time later that evening.

Experts at the Galveston County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy.
