Blood trail leads police to man’s body, two others injured in NE Houston shooting

A man was found shot to death in an empty field in northeast Houston late Monday night, a gruesome discovery uncovered by officers following a fresh blood trail.

Neighbors called 911 when they found another man shot – but still alive – on a porch in the 6000 block of Eastland Street around 10:30 p.m. After paramedics rushed him to a nearby hospital, officers spotted a trail of blood leading up to the porch where the man was found, according to Houston Police Department detective Jason Escobar.

They followed the blood trail two blocks north to the 7900 block of Blue Street, where they found two more men shot. One of them was dead while the other was rushed to the hospital.

Police believe the man found on the porch was shot with the two others in the field on Blue Street before he ran for help, Escobar said. Investigators found several shell casings in the field, while neighbors told police they heard at least six gunshots.

The motive behind the gunfire is unclear, Escobar said. Police did not have anyone in custody or any suspect descriptions as of early Tuesday morning.

Anyone with information is urged to call HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Houston Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
