Forbes has released its sixth-annual ranking of the 100 richest self-made women across business and entertainment, and it’s no surprise that one very prominent Houstonian made the list.
Third Ward native Beyoncé ranks at No. 55 on the list, worth a whopping $420 million USD.
“Women are increasingly taking center stage in business, and in our sixth annual list, Forbes is shining a spotlight on the 100 richest self-made entrepreneurs, executives and entertainers in the U.S., up from 80 a year ago,” the business magazine reported. “These trail blazers, worth a collective $90 billion, have started or helped expand companies that do everything from build rockets to create snowboards to make Covid-19 tests.”
HOW COOL IS THIS? You can take a music industry class at UH taught by Beyoncé’s dad
Beyoncé’s first claim to fame was under the direction of her father Mathew Knowles in the late 1990s, during her time with the all-girl group Destiny’s Child, and she hasn’t slowed down since.
The singer-songwriter and choreographer racked up roughly $5 million per night with her husband Jay-Z during their joint On The Run II stadium tour in 2018 (it was amazing, by the way), pulling in a total of more than $250 million, according to Forbes.
In April 2019, she broke the Internet when she released her Netflix special “Homecoming,” a live album about her 2018 performance at Coachella. According to Forbes, Beyoncé was the first black woman to headline the festival, and her performance was the most-ever streamed Coachella video on YouTube.
Seriously, is there anything she can’t do?
The Houston natives’ Ivy Park partnership with Adidas and her voicing Nala during the “Lion King” remake also contributed to her net worth.
Beyoncé also ranked on Forbes’ 2019 list of ‘The World’s 100 Most Powerful Women”, their 2016 list of “America’s Richest Entrepreneurs Under 40” and in 2019, she ranked on their list of highest-paid celebrities.
