Before-and-after photos show impact of Harris County’s stay-at-home order on Houston

What a difference a day makes — for the most part.

Hours before Harris County’s stay-at-home/work safe order went into effect, Chronicle photographers went out across Houston on Tuesday and photographed residents on the street, at the park or at the store, capturing slices of life we generally took for granted before the novel coronavirus appeared here.

The following day, photographers went out again and found Houstonians still out and about, albeit in fewer numbers. Despite the plea from local leaders and health officials to generally stay at home, some still managed to go to Memorial Park, ride METRO or visit the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center.

The fewer crowds hopefully gave those venturing out a better chance at practicing some social distancing.
