58-year-old Houston man pushing stalled car killed in robbery

A 58-year-old man was killed in a robbery as he pushed his stalled car down a quiet residential street Wednesday morning, Houston police say.

The man was pushing the blue two-door along the 5500 block of Elm Tree Street, just east of Martin Luther King Boulevard, around 9:45 a.m. when two cars blocked him in on Canterway Drive, Houston Police Sgt. Steven Murdock said. Witnesses told police that two men got out of the cars and demanded items from the victim, who apparently refused, Murdock said.

At least one of the two suspects pulled a gun and shot the man when he refused. Paramedics found him slumped inside the open the passenger door and pronounced him dead.

Nearby surveillance video might have captured the gunfire, Murdock said. Police did not release a detailed description of the suspects.

Anyone with information is urged to call Houston Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
