Family loses home, firefighter hurt in Aldine house fire

A massive house fire in the Aldine area Thursday night left a family without a home and a firefighter in the hospital.

Firefighters were called to the home in the 4600 block of Gaston Street around 7:10 p.m. and found heavy flames shooting out of the roof, Aldine Fire Department District Chief Joe Leggett said. Firefighters spent the better part of a half hour bringing the fire under control.

Footage from the scene shows that the home sustained heavy fire damage. A man in his 80s who lived in the home was able to escape unscathed.

One firefighter, however, was injured while trying to catch a fellow firefighter who had slipped off a ladder, Leggett said. The Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office later said that firefighter suffered a dislocated shoulder.

Arson investigators ruled the fire as accidental and believe it started with some sort of electrical issue in the attic, according to the fire marshal’s office.
