Worker who died in Rosenberg trench collapse identified as Houston man

A Houston man excavating lines died Wednesday after a trench collapse in Rosenberg, officials said.

The man, identified by Rosenberg police as  32-year-old Rigoberto Ochoa Gonzalez, was one of three people working for a telecommunications contractor  excavating lines  near FM 2218 and Bryan Road, police said. Two workers were inside the trench when it collapsed about 12:23 p.m., trapping Gonzalez. The third worker was operating machinery.

Paramedics were called to a report of a “traumatic injury” at the location, records show.

Police are still investigating the cause and factors of the incident.
